Apartment Review for Astor Place - New York, NY

Overall, this building is excellent. It's an excellent location -- right by Fairway -- very convenient.

Parking is not terrible -- the trick is to check what nights the Beacon Theatre has shows and park early or late. Tons of spots around noon due to alternate regulations. Also, there is a pediatrician plus Fairway and Citarella so many people park for just an hour during the day.

The Security people are NOT doormen as I originally thought. They are hired contractors from a Security Company. Somehow, they seem to only work for a few months and change around. They are often quite nice but some seem drugged out. I can't complain -- thank goodness -- so far there have been no problems.

Neighbors are very kind and friendly and all know each other which is better than any Security Company in town.

The walls, however, are paper thin. Some apartment lofts are head to head with each other. I can literally hear my neighbor snoring at night. It's a little embarassing when it comes to sexual activities. Everybody can hear everything. Well, this is New York... Check out where your bedroom will be and what is up against it so you won't be in for a shocker as I was.

My neighbors tend to blast their music and you can even hear one neighbor snapping his fingers when he dances. I'm fortunate that they are always nice about keeping the music down when I have clients.

The Maintenance crew are kind and caring -- many have been around for 20 or more years. The Management team are very nice and have always been kind to me.

The other upside of this building is that one can totally work from home no matter what they do. There have been Acupuncturists, there is a Psychologist, a Massage Therapist (me) and other Consultants.

My apartment is gorgeous and I love inviting people up here. Even though it looks beautiful, the quality of the workmanship is not the best. The building never renovated my bathroom completely and it's not that nice, seems to have drainage issues, etc. Things have been fixed but seem to break again -- oh well -- if that's the worst of my problems... ;-)

So -- if you have an opportunity to move to The Astor -- grab it! It'll be a positive and wonderful experience as it's been for me.
