Apartment Review for Independence Plaza North - New York, NY

I can't stress it enough - DO NOT RENT HERE!!! this building is a mix of section 8 assistance tenants and fair market tenants-$2K for a 3Bdrm for old tenants vs. $4K for 1bdrm for new tenants. the section 8 tenants are agressively being pushed out by management which is sad, but now the fair market tenants are too-just so management can get more money. after one year of living here they increased the rent by 28% to justify their "luxury" renovations. there is NO WAY to make a old housing project building into a luxury building without tearing it down. it is ALL cosmetic work and crappy at that. it is not a doorman building-there is a security desk. the plumbing is HORRIBLE - dirty water, leaks, drains contstantly clogged. the renovations are cheap and already falling apart after 4 months. the building manager is mean, unprofessional, arrogant & stupid-great combination. the elevators don't work, no service elevator, which means sharing the elevators with construction workers-stopping on every floor!no air circulating in the hallways or elevator. i lived on a very high floor and since the windows are cheap i could hear conversations on the street. don't expect management to return your phone calls either-they don't care about your complaints or need for help. the only positive thing about this building is its location.
